The African continent equipped with new continental and international referees

In the wake of a rigorous two-day training session in Morocco, orchestrated by renowned IJF refereeing specialists, a commendable group of 12 referees emerged victorious. Of these, four clinched top honors in the continental examinations, while the remaining eight soared to success in the international arena.

In an intensive two-day course led by the IJF Head Directors of Refereeing, Daniel Florin LASCAU and Armen BAGDASAROV, a new cadre of referees were put to the test. The culmination of this event was marked by a grand ceremony held on September 9, 2023, at the esteemed Mohammed V sports complex.Notable attendees at the ceremony included Mohamed MERIDJA and Alfred FOLOKO, both Vice-Presidents of the AJU. Adding to the assembly of dignitaries were Estony PRIDGEON, the Secretary General of the AJU; Chafik EL KETTANI, at the helm as the President of the Royal Moroccan Judo Federation and also serving as the General Treasurer of the AJU; Ababacar NGOM, the Head Referee Director of the AJU; Khaled ANWAR, holding the post as the Director of Refereeing for the AJU; and Ahmed MARZOUK, who presides over the Egyptian Judo Federation. The event also witnessed a reunion of sorts, with LASCAU and BAGDASAROV, the torchbearers of the course, joining the august gathering.
