African Judo Union Congress in Morocco

The African Judo Union held its Ordinary General Assembly on 5 September 2023 in Casablanca.

After establishing that there was a quorum, Professor Chafik El Kettani, esteemed President of the Royal Moroccan Judo Federation, graciously extended a warm welcome to the National Federation Delegates of Morocco. Expressing deep gratitude, he acknowledged the privilege of hosting such distinguished guests in his native country. Highlighting the significance of advancing Judo in Africa, Professor El Kettani emphasized its paramount importance for the growth and progression of our judoka.

Mr. Meridja Mohamed, 1st Vice-President, commenced the proceedings by extending his sincere gratitude to the Royal Moroccan Federation for their warm hospitality extended to all the congress participants. He underscored the fact that all the activities accomplished were the result of a dedicated team effort. Furthermore, Mr. Meridja expressed his deep appreciation to Mr. Marius VIZER, President of the International Judo Federation, for his unwavering support and invaluable assistance rendered to the African continent.

Mr Siteny, President of the African Judo Union, was absent from the conclave due to his ambition to run for a presidential mandate in his country. However, he was keen to send a video message to the members of the General Assembly. He presented his most sincere thanks to the national federations for all their efforts in the service of their athletes and in the development of judo to make it a tool for education and social promotion.

Mr Alfred FOLOKO, presented the President's report and highlighted the volume of actions carried out. The number of African opens rose from 2 to 9. African refereeing has undergone major reforms for the benefit of referees and athletes. Communication has been reorganised. The AJU's activities are reported on our various media and social networks in real time.

During his concluding remarks, Mr. Meridja emphasized the importance of collective effort and unity within the AJU. He highlighted the necessity of cooperation between the organization and national federations, emphasizing that their guidance and input are crucial for the future progress of the AJU. Mr. Meridja stressed that through open dialogue and consultation, sustainable development can be achieved. Recognizing the numerous challenges ahead, the Directing Committee remains committed to overcoming them. Collaboration is indispensable in building a more resilient and vibrant Africa. Rather than viewing success as a mere objective, it should be perceived as a catalyst towards achieving our ultimate goals.
